Is it Equality, Equity, or Justice?

This session uses sample situations to not only review the technical definitions and histories of equality, equity, and justice, but also to ask the question “What does this situation require?” Participants will have an opportunity to practice working together in order to strategize on what impact is possible in the moment, the near term, and in the long term.

The session begins with a review of each term – both what it means and what it means in practice. Following which, the group is provided a scenario and asked to develop strategies to achieve either equality, equity, or justice. Throughout the session, participants are asked to consider how context informs strategy and how to make decisions in a highly nuanced environment.

Attendees of this workshop develop skills in:

  • Using a working definition of equality, equity, and justice

  • Understanding the capacities and considerations needed to achieve any one of the three

  • Practice evaluating possible outcomes from varying strategies related to equality, equity, and justice.
